MCP Server

Connect Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients to ConceptViz to create and revise scientific diagrams with your API key.

What it is

The ConceptViz MCP server lets AI assistants that support the Model Context Protocol create and revise scientific and educational diagrams for you. It is a remote server using Streamable HTTP and your ConceptViz API key.

  • Server URL: https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp
  • Authentication: sign in with OAuth (Claude.ai, ChatGPT), or send Authorization: Bearer cvk_your_api_key_here. Credentials in the URL are never accepted.

Who can use it

The MCP server uses the same API keys, credits and eligibility as the REST API. API access is included with every paid plan and with remaining purchased credits. See the API reference for who can create keys, credit costs and limits. Every tool call is billed exactly like the matching REST call; failed tasks are refunded automatically.

Create a key in Settings > API Keys.

Connect your client

Claude.ai (custom connector)

  1. In Claude, open Settings, Connectors, then Add custom connector.
  2. Enter the server URL https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp and save.
  3. Click Connect. Sign in to ConceptViz and approve access when asked.

Claude can then create diagrams with your ConceptViz credits. No API key is needed. To remove access, click Disconnect under Settings > API (Connected apps) or remove the connector in Claude.

ChatGPT (custom connector / app)

  1. In ChatGPT, enable developer mode and add a new connector (Settings, Connectors).
  2. Use the MCP server URL https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp and choose OAuth authentication.
  3. Sign in to ConceptViz and approve access.

You can revoke the connection at any time under Settings > API (Connected apps).

Grok

grok.com (custom connector)

  1. In Grok, open Connectors, then New Connector, then Custom.
  2. Enter the server URL https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp.
  3. If Grok asks for authentication, sign in to ConceptViz and approve the connection.

Grok Build CLI

grok mcp add --transport http -H "Authorization: Bearer $CONCEPTVIZ_API_KEY" conceptviz https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp

The -H value uses the format NAME: VALUE. You can also leave out the header and authorize in the browser with OAuth instead:

grok mcp add --transport http conceptviz https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp

xAI API (Responses API remote MCP tool)

Pass ConceptViz as a remote MCP tool in your Responses API request:

{
  "tools": [
    {
      "type": "mcp",
      "server_url": "https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp",
      "server_label": "conceptviz",
      "authorization": "cvk_your_api_key_here",
      "allowed_tools": [
        "create_scientific_diagram",
        "get_diagram_task",
        "get_credit_balance"
      ]
    }
  ]
}

The xAI API supports a static API key only (no OAuth), so use a ConceptViz API key (cvk_...) here. See xAI's remote MCP tools documentation for the current fields.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http conceptviz https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer cvk_your_api_key_here"

Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or the project .cursor/mcp.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "conceptviz": {
      "url": "https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer cvk_your_api_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

VS Code

Add this to .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "conceptviz": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://conceptviz.app/api/mcp/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer cvk_your_api_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Tools

ToolWhat it doesUses credits
create_scientific_diagramCreates one diagram from a text description. Options: mode (standard or max), quality (2k or 4k), aspectRatio.Yes
revise_diagramChanges a completed diagram from your account, given its task_id and instructions.Yes
get_diagram_taskChecks a task and returns the image link when it is ready.No
get_credit_balanceShows the credits this key can spend.No

create_scientific_diagram and revise_diagram wait up to about 50 seconds for the image. If it is not ready yet, they return a task_id; call get_diagram_task with it a little later. Do not resubmit.

The server is meant for scientific and educational diagrams, not photos or portraits of people. revise_diagram only works on diagrams created with your own account; it does not accept image URLs or uploads.

If your balance is too low, the tools reply: "Not enough credits. You can check your balance and plans at conceptviz.app."
